We recently found out about yet another health insurance tactic to not cover certain people, mostly women. To be specific not covering women that have been previously raped. It turns out that if women that have been raped, go to a doctor or hospital, these providers more often than not, prescribe for them a month's supply of anti-AIDS medicine. This of course goes on their record. Even though most of these women never get AIDS, insurance companies will deny them health coverage in the future, due to their supposedly pre-existing condition...
This is discrimination against women who had no control over their predicament. We are talking about thousands of women who get raped or sexually assaulted each year in this country! This could be your sister, wife, mother or daughter. Not only does this mean that these women will live with the horrible memory of their rape, but they will also have to face living without health insurance coverage for the rest of their lives! As stated previously, most of them never get the so called pre-existing condition, which in this case is AIDS!

Open Carry Gun Activists Rally Near the White House
There will be a demonstration by dozens of firearm activists outside DC, but near the Capital and the White House today. This will be the first ever demonstration where the participants will carry their weapons openly and loaded. Some will carry loaded pistols, rifles and ammunition. This rally is for protesting the health care reform, climate control, bank bailouts.... Basically targeting President Obama's "totalitarian socialism", as they call it.
Officials are preparing the streets with fencing, barricades and bike racks, just as they would prepare for any other rally where people can practice their freedom of speech.
For more details go here.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) announced again, that "April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month". This annual project not only reminds us of the past victims of assault but also encourages people to be more aware of their surroundings and to be proactive in regards to their safety. In 2010, due to the overwhelming rate of college sexual assaults, the NSVRC is focusing on college students. According to the center, one in every five college women will experience a sexual assault by the time she graduates. Besides the NSVRC work, many other companies or organizations, mark this month w/conferences, self defense classes and donations to organizations that help victims of sexual assaults.
WomenOnGuard.com donated to NSVRC, this month, and encourages others to do the same. Donations can be monetary or by helping an organization such as a women's crisis center near you.
