Traveling with Pepper Spray, Tasers or Stun Guns

Are you planing to go on a trip but aren't sure you can take your self defense product? This is a concern many people have and we wanted to find out for you, exactly what the United States' rules are in regards to this. This information is only for driving or airplane trips, not for traveling on cruise ships or trains.

First thing is first; if you are driving and staying in the USA, you need to find out the restrictions of the state you are planning to stay in. Go to State Restrictions on our website. It might be against the law to carry a Taser, pepper spray, Mace or stun gun in the state you are going to. Your weapon could be taken away from you by a police officer or you might get a hefty fine for carrying one. If you are crossing the border to Canada or Central and South America, you need to find out the restrictions of the country you are headed to. Border patrols most likely will confiscate your self defense product from you. No they won't keep it for you, until you get back through, it's a goner!

If your plans are to travel by air, the same restrictions apply as mentioned above. But when on an airplane, there are also other considerations you need to keep in mind. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has certain guidelines that need to be followed when boarding a plane with your Taser, pepper spray, Mace or stun gun. Airplanes prohibit self defense products from entering the cabin area, period. You cannot carry-on weapons on a plane, they must go through Check-in, along with the other luggage that ends up on the bottom part of the airplane.

Besides making sure your self defense product is not carried with you into the cabin, there are also certain conditions the TSA has, for accepting your Taser, pepper spray, Mace or stun gun on board. All stun device weapons must be inside a protective package, box or pack. This is to make sure that for instance the Taser, doesn't shoot out the probes and somehow injure a poor puppy that might be nearby or damage other people's luggage! If taking pepper spray or Mace spray, the TSA does not allow containers larger than 4 fl. oz. Any container detected that is larger than that, will be taken from you!

May your travelings be safe and hassle free!

Stun Batons for Home Use

When you hear about batons, you think about the police using them against crowds. But batons aren't just for police use anymore. Many security guards and animal control officers use batons and now citizens are using them as well. We are talking about stun batons with electrical volts and not just the ordinary baton! You rarely will see someone on the streets carrying one, but many homeowners are starting to see the benefits of having one in their home instead of keeping a baseball bat under their bed!

Benefits of Stun Batons
The most obvious benefit that this self defense product has is the extra reach you acquire. Some, like the Expandable Stun Baton, can reach from 12 1/2 inches to 21 inches! Stun batons are not just for hitting someone over the head with, they also can electrically shock a person.

Stun Baton Features
Stun batons, like stun guns, have electrical volts that if used on a person, can knock them down and disable them temporarily. If a homeowner just test fires a stun baton into the air, it's intimidating electrical sound is often enough to stop an attacker in their tracks. Simply touching an attacker or home intruder with this self defense product for 3 to 5 seconds will deliver a high voltage shock, causing loss of balance and muscle control, confusion and disorientation, bringing them to their knees and making them incapable of aggressive moves. Besides having the extra reach as mentioned previously, some of these self defense products have ear piercing 130 decibel alarms besides the 1,000,000 volts that some batons contain. There are stun batons that also function as flashlights. This is even more convenient because it allows you to see the intruder if it is dark. Another feature that some stun batons have is the capacity to stun the attacker with the sides of the baton as well as with the tip of it. If the home intruder or attacker tries to grab the baton from you, he or she will be shocked while touching the baton's sides. Some of the newer stun baton models are rechargeable, so the homeowner does not need to purchase extra batteries. In addition, most come with a convenient safety switch, holster and lifetime warranty.

Pepper Spray Pen or Stun Pen for College

What could be more perfect than to have a self defense product that blends right in with the college scene?

Fall is getting closer and as you or your child start packing their backpack for college, you should consider adding a self defense product. A pepper spray pen or a stun pen look like your typical school supplies, but these are no ordinary pens! Both of these pens look normal and provide you with the element of surprise against an attacker on campus or where ever you may be.

The Pepper Spray Pen contains 17% pepper that can disable an attacker as far as 5 to 7 feet away. This pen contains approximately 6 bursts and also a UV Dye to help police with identification when the person is apprehended. A one-second spray to the face will cause temporary blindness, choking, coughing, and nausea, bringing the attacker to their knees. Their eyes will burn and hurt so much that they would not be able to open them. In some cases, the eyes swell up and slam shut! This self defense product is available in burgundy/black or pink and has a pocket clip just like any other pen.

The Stun Pen looks more like a magic marker and contains 1 million volts of power! Just test firing this stun pen into the air is often enough to stop an attacker. As the bright electric current pulsates across the top of the unit it creates an intimidating electrical sound. An attacker with any sense at all will be stopped in their tracks. If the sight and sound doesn't stop them, a jolt from this unit certainly will. The stun pen also comes with a built-in LED flashlight, safety switch and even a holster! Although it comes with a holster it is slim enough to carry in your pocket or purse. The holster is if you prefer to carry it on your belt. This self defense product is available in black and batteries are included.

Keep in mind that safety in college is just as important as getting good grades!

Send Your Child Safely to College

Fall is gradually getting closer and before you know it, your daughter or son will be headed back to college or going for the first time.

Most parents of these students make sure that their child get all the clothes they need, the books that are required and that their backpack is filled with all the tools they need to perform well and hopefully graduate with honors. There is one thing that is overlooked by parents when gathering all these materials and that is the self defense product or tool. What tool is that, you might ask? This is the simple pepper spray or stun device or even a citizen taser that they might need if confronted with an attacker. A must have item when walking through campus grounds.

A self defense product added to a child's backpack, is a small investment that parents overlook when sending their kids off to college. Especially if your child is a female. It is a known fact that college women are victims of sexual assault 4 times more than other women in society. Women are more vulnerable to sexual assaults than men. It is crucial for your daughter to carry a self defense product. Don't assume your son will always be safe either. There are many incidents where college men have been victims of attacks too. These incidents against males are most of the time, attempts of theft or bullying.

College campuses are like small cities, where students go from one building to another. Sometimes classes, student gatherings or parties take place at night and this is when it becomes crucial to have some sort of protection like a pepper spray, a stun gun or a taser which can prevent sexual assaults or thefts. A stun device such as a stun gun or taser are a little pricier than pepper spray, but each person has their particular preference. This is when you might want to ask your son or daughter what they would prefer. Many of these items come disguised as other things. Some pepper spray look like lipstick containers, some stun guns look like cell phones or pens....

Please keep in mind your child's safety as well as their education when sending them off to college!

Shopping for a Gun or Taser?

There has been an increase of firearm purchases recently in the U.S. Whether this increase is due to the government administration considering the return of restrictions on semi automatic weapons or the increase in crime, Americans are buying ammunition and firearms by the thousands.

If you are a person considering purchasing a self defense product such as a gun or a Taser, here are a few things you need to take into consideration.

First, your family as well as yourself are priority number one. The weapon you choose should be reliable and safe to use. A break-in, in your home can take place at any time and you may or may not be there. It's important to learn how to use and take care of a gun or self defense product. A question you might want to ask yourself is, how comfortable do you feel teaching your spouse or significant other how to use this self defense weapon?

Second, is the weapon you want to buy lethal or non lethal? This is an important question. Do you want to kill your perpetrator(s) with a gun or do you want to temporarily incapacitate them with a Taser? Ask yourself the following questions:

  • If the perpetrator gets a hold of your weapon, will they be able to turn it against you or your family?
  • If the perpetrator uses your weapon, can it incapacitate you or kill you or your family?
  • What repercussions with your state laws will there be if you incapacitate or kill someone under these conditions?

Third and lastly, how easy or difficult will it be to buy a weapon? Will you need a special permit? If you are considering a firearm, you will need a permit to carry it. Depending on the state you live in, it could be as little as 24 hours or maybe 30 days. If you are considering a non lethal, self defense product such as a Taser, you will need to pass a felony background check, and that only takes a few minutes.

It's your choice on how you want to protect yourself and your family, it's not an easy decision to make. Please keep in mind that, whichever weapon you decide on, it could help save your life and also your family's life.

What You Need to Know About Stun Guns

It all started when Thomas Edison decided to endorse the use of the electric chair to a state commission seeking alternatives ways for capital punishment. Of course stun guns today are not set up to be lethal, but they sure hurt and disable you temporarily!

How do stun guns work, you might ask? A stun gun is an electrical self defense product that uses high voltage to stop an attacker. Touching a person with the prongs on the stun gun quickly immobilizes the attacker. However, because the amperage of a stun gun is very low, no serious or permanent injury is inflicted.

The stun gun is designed to key into the nervous system. It dumps its energy into the muscles at a high pulse frequency that makes the muscles work very rapidly, but not efficiently. This rapid work cycle depletes blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid all in just seconds. The resulting energy loss makes it difficult to move and function. At the same time, the tiny neurological impulses that travel throughout the body to direct muscle movement are interrupted. This causes disorientation and loss of balance and leaves the attacker in a passive and confused condition for several minutes. Still, there is no significant effect on the heart and other organs.

As a general rule, a one-half second contact with a stun gun can repel and startle the attacker, giving some pain and muscle contraction. One to two seconds can cause muscle spasms and a dazed mental state. Over three seconds can cause loss of balance and muscle control, mental confusion and disorientation. Realize that 3 seconds is quite a long time when in a physical struggle. Every person is different and will react differently to the effects of a stun gun. What may put one person down in 3 seconds could take 5 seconds on another person.

The electrical shock that emits from the stun gun will not pass from the person being stunned to the person doing the stunning. The effect is localized only in the affected area and does not pass through the body. Even if you or the attacker is wet or standing in water and use the stun gun, you will not get shocked by this self defense product.

Stun guns are self defense products that come in all shapes and sizes. Some are disguised as pens, phones, pager, etc. Other stun guns come in baton form and flashlight shapes and some are as small as a cigarette pack. Of course they come in many colors and many also come with LED lights and alarms attached.

Stun Guns are legal in most states. Please click here for State Restrictions.

Don't take my Taser!

Many of us are traveling for Spring Break, business meetings or other planned events. Some of us will go to the airport instead of driving or taking a train to our destination. As a safety precaution we always carry a self defense product such as a Taser. Beware that your self defense product, be it a Taser, mace pepper spray or stun gun are considered hazardous materials in airports. Your Taser or other personal defense products will be confiscated by airport officials before boarding your plane if you plan on caring it on the plane with you. You might cry, 'Don't take my Taser!', but it won't do you any good! No need to panic though, you are allowed to include a Taser or stun gun in your suitcase only if it goes as luggage under the plane. Pepper spray is a different story, it will not be allowed at all, anywhere on the plane. Since pepper spray is usually in aerosol form, it has the potential to expand in different atmospheric pressures while traveling and burst or explode, therefore contaminating all it's surroundings and vents on the plane. Always check with your airlines regarding their rules on carrying self defense products. Rules and restrictions may change.

Traveling on international flights is a whole different story. You will not be allowed at all to carry a self defense product such as a Taser, pepper spray or a stun gun on the plane. You can't carry it on board or put it in the luggage section of the plane.

It also might be a good idea to ask about laws pertaining to self defense products if you are traveling by train or ship. Other traveling sources might have different restrictions regarding Tasers, mace pepper spray and stun guns.

Besides a Taser, mace pepper spray or stun gun, not being permitted on planes, your destination location might have state or city restrictions that don't allow citizens to carry such items. This will also be the case even if you travel to your final destination in car. If you are traveling to a different country, they also might have restrictions against carrying some self defense products. Avoid being stopped by local police in different cities. Always check the laws of your final destination before going there with your self defense product.

To get information about state and city restrictions in the U.S., you can go to our State Restrictions page.Link

Safety Gifts For The Holidays

There is nothing better than a safety gift that will protect the life of a loved one or your own.

There are many safety gifts you can choose from that are reasonably priced and great for stocking stuffers. You can also choose more pricier ones that are sure to impress and surprise anyone! Among the reasonably priced gifts are pepper sprays or Mace pepper spray. Some pepper sprays come disguised as lipstick containers or pens. These are convenient because no one suspects you are carrying a self defense product. Most pepper spray products have key rings that make them handy to carry around with your house or car keys. You can get a great deal purchasing them in a package of 6. Personal alarms are also a favorite, reasonably priced self defense product, especially among women. Personal alarms can come with key chains, flashlights and some can even be attached to a door and used as a door alarm. You can also give higher priced gifts such as a Taser C2 or a medium priced gift such as a stun gun.

Giving a self defense product as a gift for the holidays is unexpected and the person you give it to will appreciate it and probably carry it with them all the time! It is a gift that shows you care.

Outdoor Summer Fun, Pepper Spray Precautions

There are many things going on in the summer and most of them take place outdoors. As always, when you go out, take a self defense product with you. Of course there are precautions you need to take with all self defense products. Pepper spray is at the top of the list for precautionary measures when it pertains to heat. Be especially aware during the summer, that the spray is in a pressurized container (just like hairspray) and if it gets too hot, it can expand and break through the container, spreading pepper spray everywhere! When at the beach or pool, make sure to keep your pepper spray covered from the sun, if it is going to be exposed for a long period of time. Most pepper sprays are OK if they get wet, but it is not recommended that you submerge them in water. Another thing to remember is if you leave your pepper spray in the car, it is better to place it in the glove compartment or a place that is shaded at all times. If your car gets way too hot in the summer, it is recommended that you NOT leave the pepper spray in the car. If you are going to fly on a plane, remember that you will not be allowed to carry it on board, so leave your pepper spray at home. This is due to the Homeland Security issues. This is also why when you purchase pepper spray from WomenOnGuard.com, it reaches you via UPS or USPS ground service instead of air. The only product that WomenOnGuard.com can send via fast air mail is the Guardian Angel Pepper Spray. Due to it's unique container, it is not pressurized and it is not affected by heat.

Perfect Gift for Mom

Wondering what to get your mom this year for Mother's Day? Well, look no further. What better gift to give your mom than the gift of self protection. Giving your mom a self defense product is truly a unique gift, she probably has never received before! We often think of our moms as being almighty very strong women, after all they raised us. But physical or emotional strength is often not enough to fend off an attacker.

Choose Carefully
Pick a self defense product that your mom will be comfortable with. Some women are not comfortable carrying for example pepper spray. Other options to that would be a personal alarm or a stun gun. Some women would rather carry a taser than a stun gun, to keep what might be an attacker at a good distance! Some women don't feel safe at work and would love a stun pen or a pepper pen, which look like regular pens, but really are a stun gun or pepper spray in disguise! There are many products to select from, some look like the actual defense tool, while others are manufactured to resemble a ring, a cell phone, pager, lipstick container, etc.

Any self defense product would be a far better gift than to just give your mom candy or perfume! Your mom will thank you for it.

Why Buy A Stun Gun?

Do you carry a stun gun or not? Why do you or don't you carry a stun gun or some sort of self defense product?
I purchased one back in 1988. Why? My reason was because I was riding the metro rail in Atlanta Georgia and did not feel safe without some sort of self defense product. Back then, I only weighed 110 lbs. and felt I could be an easy target for any stranger that would get too close to me. My main concern was walking 2 blocks to where my car was parked from the station. This was especially risky and very scary in the winter months when it was already dark by the time I left my job!
Fortunately I knew someone that knew about stun guns back then and I knew where to purchase one. Women and men now a days might know about stun guns too but have no idea where to buy one. Unfortunately our local superstores or discount stores don't carry them.
What are your thoughts?

Martha
