A College Drill Given To My Niece!

My niece will be attending college as a freshman student this fall. So I took it upon myself to send her a message via Facebook, about what she should be aware of while attending a University.

This is exactly what I sent her (grammar mistakes and all):
"Remember, to take your pepper spray, even if they don't allow it. AND a stun gun! Not sure if we gave you these things... If we did, the pepper spray should be canned, because it's pressure might not be very good anymore. Let me know and we will send you some extra PROTECTION!" And... "PLUS, don't forget, NEVER drink from a punch bowl or a pre-opened container, from a glass or bottle given to you, unless you saw it poured! Date rape drugs are very rampant in college... AND, keep an eye on your drink, this prevents date rape! When walking on campus at night, do it with a friend or request campus police to escort you! SERIOUSLY. This is not to scare you, but to prepare you. Be smart and practice common sense prevention, take the pepper spray or stun gun with you at all times. One more thing, we'll send some Date Rape Test Strips, so you can test drinks given to you from students you don't know well."

Crazy? Maybe the delivery was, but she got the idea and that's what counts… Feel free to copy, paste and send to students going to college! At that young age, they'll ingest the drill and have it in their minds while strolling college campus territory!

Personal Safety for Your Daughter in College

Is your daughter or someone you know headed to college this fall? Besides getting good grades, it is very important that they stay safe. Just like in society, college campuses also have their share of crimes being committed.

Students Scared Around College Campus

Have you ever noticed that when female students start college, after their summer break, many are terrified of walking alone on campus? If you haven't, you can see for yourself by just checking out tweets on Twitter, made by college girls, right when classes start. Maybe one quarter of the tweets, mention how scary it is to walk alone around campus. This is especially the case with freshmen students that walk around campus for the first time at night or perhaps jog early in the morning.

Students, females or males, have good reason to be scared. Studies have shown that college women are 4 times more likely to get raped than other women in society. Men also can get bullied or attacked and robbed in college. These threats may come from other classmates or from a dangerous outsider. It can be threatening on campus grounds and surrounding areas as well.

If you have a child attending college this coming fall, make sure that you include some Mace, pepper spray or other self defense product, along with the other materials they take to college. Pepper spray as well as Mace, nowadays come disguised, so others won't notice that your child is carrying some protection. Mace pens are a good example. 2 Virginia Tech University students killed near campus

It happened 15 miles from Virginia Tech University's Blacksburg campus at a campground frequented by students. The students were shot to death in the parking lot of the Caldwell Fields campground. They were 19 year-old David Lee Metzler and 18 year-old Heidi Lynn Childs. David's body was found in the car and Heidi's was found outside the car. David was an industrial and systems engineering major and Heidi was majoring in biochemistry. Autopsies are going to be conducted but no suspect has been identified.

This incident follows the massacre that took place 2 years ago at Virginia Tech University by a student that killed 32 others and then himself. To add to that, in January of this year, a student killed a fellow student by beheading her in a campus cafe!

Virginia Tech University's President, Charles Steger, has been counseling the campus community and doesn't understand how this sort of violence is taking place in the area, at this time and in the campus community. He mentioned that tragedies like these are deeply painful to all. Memorial services will be posted on the university's Web site.

Home protection made easy

Sometimes the simplest things are the best things for protecting yourself from home intruders. This little device is a door stop and an alarm, it's called the Door Stop Alarm.
