Huge Hurricane Matthew Demands Respect!

I was raised in Florida and seen several hurricane storms threaten our State... Hurricane Betsy, Katrina, Andrew, Agnes, Wilma and more!

OK, I've enjoyed in my life many hurricane parties. Family and friends gathering together with candle light and goodies to eat... But, there have also been scary situations, like watching a tree fall over, within an inch from your home! The fear of how long will it be when the electricity comes back on? Will the shelves of grocery stores be emptied out?

You see, the hurricane might only take 24 hours to pass over your city, but the damage can endure for months! Many people might find themselves with no roof over their heads, no clean water to drink and a load of ruined grocery that has spoiled from having no electricity. Not to mentioned the debris... Which can stay in your area for months, before the trash finally gets picked up in your neighborhood!

Most of the time, you need boiled water because it can be contaminated. I remember my parents filling the bathtub with water, to later use the boiled water for drinking or cooking. If you have a gas stove, barbecue unit or a very large cooler, you'll probably be one of the lucky ones... PLUS, don't forget to fill up your vehicle's tank!

At WomenOnGuard, we suggest you take any strong storm, seriously. Even if you think you won't be impacted, it's better to be prepared.

Storm Season Is Here… Are You Ready?

Expect hurricanes, tornados, floods, power outages and the usual race to the grocery store for emergency food items and water bottles.

Dark stormy skies lurk above a neighborhood

It never fails, a transformer gets hit by lightning or a tree branch hits it… consequently your entire neighborhood looses electricity. There's nothing worse than being in a storm and all of a sudden, it all gets dark. You are left with no light and can't get any information regarding the status of the storm. But you can prepare yourself for these predictable occurrences, and have radio information, plus lighting, even if you don't have batteries!

Dynamo or hand cranked radio with flashlight, siren, colored flashing lights and antenna. You're probably thinking, that's impossible… Well, if you buy a Dynamo Solar Radio Flashlight, you will be able to hear the news and have lighting, during an emergency! That's because this solar flashlight can be hand cranked for energy. Plus it also can be charged by sun light! Hand cranking it, offers instant electricity to enable it's radio or it's flashlight. Of course, you can always purchase 2 regular "AA" batteries or an AC to DC volt adapter, as well. The Dynamo Solar Radio Flashlight, also has a siren and comes with 1 yellow lens and 1 red lens, for flashing emergency signaling. This AM/FM unit, also includes a telescopic antenna for clear, local reception and it's relatively small, only measures 9 inches long.

Get important radio information regarding storms and have safe lighting, to get around, even when you don't have electricity. All that's needed is a hand crank... Not bad for such a convenient product that only costs $34.95… A must have!

Dynamo Radio Works During Storms, Without Batteries!

Weather information can sometimes be very critical. Especially during hurricanes and tornadoes. Your TV won't work, since there is no electricity, so you need to rely on an AM or FM radio station.

Most people use radios that are powered by electricity or a few alkaline batteries, but what if you forgot to replace those old batteries, years ago? What if the batteries are dead? Don't become a victim of a storm, simply because you weren't properly equipped to receive crucial weather information.

The Dynamo World Band Radio is the perfect tool you need when the electricity goes out. It allows you to listen during a storm, to AM and FM radio and local TV stations as well. This unit was also made for listening to stations all over the world! Sounds pretty nifty! But the best part about the Dynamo is that it works even if you don't have batteries or electricity around! You see, it can also be powered up by a hand crank that you can turn with your hand. The hand crank produces enough power so that you can listen to important weather storms for a few minutes. Plus during other less critical occasions, you can insert two "D" size batteries, as well, for regular use!

You can listen to AM, FM and local TV stations, whether you have power or not, simply by turning a hand crank! Don't be denied important information, when you need it the most. Have a backup plan to keep your family safe. Oh, the Dynamo also includes a handy shoulder strap, to carry it around with. Measures 7 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 4 3/8 inches.

Hurricanes and Our Infrastructure

History will repeat itself this summer, with hurricanes in our weather forecast. Tropical storm Debby is the next threat to our everlasting, American costly dilemma, when it comes to dealing with these predictable annual events.

Whether global warming exists or not, the fact is that cities like New Orleans, with 49% of it's land under sea level, will always have deadly issues. The USA has, year after year,  turned it's back on the problems some of our cities encounter with tropical storms and hurricanes. This leads to huge costs, that if finally addressed, wouldn't be eating at our pockets, every, single, year! Whether it's global warming or not, we shouldn't just stare at it and do nothing.

Many cities in Europe have had infrastructure issues with flooding, like New Orleans has, specifically in the Netherlands, or Holland. In most cases the flooding really wasn't related to weather, like tropical storm Debby. The Dutch have 25% of their land, under sea level, yet you don't hear about many deaths occurring recently! Why? Because they have tackled their problems. They did this years ago when they upgraded their infrastructure by building 1,864 miles of outer sea-dikes along with inner canals and river-dikes. We need to learn from them and improve our infrastructure. Not only in Louisiana, but in other areas where floods are predominant, such as along the Mississippi River.

Storms like Debby or hurricane weather forecasts, are not going to go away. New Orleans or the Mississippi River will not, all of a sudden, dry up! Not only will these improvements save lives, but they will also help our infrastructure with global warming and provide much needed jobs that Americans so desperately need.
