Judge cuts child rapist’s sentence by 15 years, saying he had not meant to hurt the 3-year-old victim

A California judge cut a child rapist’s potential life sentence last week, saying the man had not meant to harm the toddler girl.

Kevin Rojano was convicted Dec. 3 of sodomizing a child younger than 10 and lascivious acts with a minor, and he was initially sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

But Orange County Superior Court Judge M. Marc Kelly trimmed 15 years off Rojano’s sentence, saying it would be cruel and unusual punishment to impose the maximum prison term because the 20-year-old lacked “callous disregard for (the victim’s) well-being,” reported the Orange County Register.

Prosecutors said Rojano was playing video games June 4 in the garage of his Santa Ana home when a 3-year-old relative wandered in, and investigators said the man became sexually aroused by the child and assaulted her.

The girl’s mother was unable to get into the locked garage as she looked for the child, and prosecutors said Rojano covered the toddler’s mouth to keep her from yelling.

Rojano let the girl out of the garage, and her mother was unaware of the abuse until her daughter complained of pain.

“In looking at the facts of Mr. Rojano’s case, the manner in which this offense was committed is not typical of a predatory, violent brutal sodomy of a child case,” the judge claimed in his decision. “Mr. Rojano did not seek out or stalk (the victim). He was playing video games and she wandered into the garage. He inexplicably became sexually aroused but did not appear to consciously intend to harm (the victim) when he sexually assaulted her.”

Kelly also argued that Rojano, who had been abused as a child, said he regretted his crime.

“Although serious and despicable, this does not compare to a situation where a pedophilic child predator preys on an innocent child,” the judge argued. “There was no violence or callous disregard for (the victim’s) well-being.”

Prosecutors said they disagreed with the judge’s decision and may appeal the sentence.

"Yes Means Yes", California's Renaming Sexual Message For College Students

New bill requires, female students to first verbally agree to having sex. Only when a woman has "an affirmative, conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity", should a male student proceed.

Governor Jerry Brown - Photo Getty Images
If a female student doesn't say yes or doesn't say anything at all, it means she does not want sexual contact. This is what this new bill in California states, by Governor Jerry Brown. Basically if the female student is silent, lacks resistance, asleep, is drunk or unconscious… if she doesn't say "YES", she should not be sexually touched or manipulated!

You would think that a law like this is not necessary for college students, but sometimes placing rules, might bring up a red flag and help prevent sexual assaults by male students. We praise Governor Jerry Brown for signing this bill and hope that other colleges or universities follow suit.

How Safe Is Your Apartment Or College Dorm Door?

Are you concerned about criminals entering your apartment or college dorm unit? Many women that live alone or on campus are worried about this, especially when it can also lead to sexual assault as well.

Of course you can buy a lock for entrances, but locks sometimes break and criminals or individuals with sexual assault in mind, can sometimes kick in an entire entrance if they want to bad enough… So what can women do? We have a very simple and convenient way to take care of this dilemma...

It's called the Dual Function Door Brace, it's adjustable and made with strong 20 gauge steel. Entrances to homes and college dorms are usually pretty strong. Most of the time what breaks is the lock, not the door itself (especially if it's an exterior door). This brace is easy to use and prevents intruders. All you have to do, is snuggly place the "V" end of the unit, around the bottom of your entrance knob and slant the round section tightly on the floor. This will allow your apartment or college dorm unit to be secure, while your are inside. PLUS, this handy unit can also be used on SLIDING GLASS entrances and as mentioned before, it's length is adjustable.

Women, always place your safety first, when it comes to living alone in an apartment or college dorm. Preventive measures such as using a Dual Function Door Brace, is smart and can prevent criminals from trespassing, especially ones that have sexual assault on their minds, as well!

A Female Student Alleges Being Raped At The University Of Oregon By Three Male Students

We are placing this information, not because it's something new, but because it happens all the time at colleges and universities and it's wrong!

University of Oregon
It's sad, but true that rapes or sexual assaults are much more prevalent in college campuses than anywhere else in our society. So it's no surprise that the University Of Oregon dragged their feet when a female student declared that she was allegedly raped by 3 male basketball players of the university. The University of Oregon waited 7 weeks to finally take action and it was only a suspension. This was after many students protested on campus regarding the sexual assaults!

As you all know, sports is very important in most American universities and this one, made sure to keep it's basketball players on the team, during "March Madness". Plus, to make it even more ironic, one of the 3 accused players was actually expelled for rape, from Providence College in Rhode Island! This was before he transferred to the University of Oregon.

Sexual assaults should NEVER happen in colleges or universities and students that are accused of it, especially more than once, should be expelled immediately. Not just suspended temporarily... Colleges need to focus more on education instead of sports such as basketball. Hopefully in the end, these 3 basketball players will be kicked out forever, if found guilty!

Do You Want Pepper Spray That Is More Than Twice As Strong As Others?

23% pepper spray concentration, versus others that only have 10%.Most pepper spray out there have 10% of the hot substance, but at WomenOnGuard, we have one that is more powerful and has 23%!

The pain it inflicts is unimaginable… Any woman will feel confident carrying this self defense item called the Police Strength Pepper Spray Hardcase 1/2. It's a Streetwise brand. This brand has been around since 1990.

Women are too often the victims of sexual assault. Yes this barbaric act is still a HUGE problem in our society and all around the world. So, of course, us women have really no alternative than to always be prepared for the unexpected, which happens way too often. In fact RAINN declares that a person gets sexually assaulted every 2 minutes in the USA! I say a person, because even if there are a few amount, men also can be attacked (sexually or in other ways). Needless to say, men should carry some sort of protection in our country, as well.

23% Police Strength Pepper Spray Features
Stronger, 87% hotter solution
Safety lock prevents accidental discharge
Ridged grip hard case is easy to hold
Reaches 5-7 feet
Contains approximately 6 bursts
Handy key ring and belt clip
Incapacitates for 45 minutes

The news doesn't mention women sexual assaults as much as they should. Unfortunately, it is too common of an occurrence! Unless of course the victim was so gruesomely raped that the news stations will get better ratings if they did cover the sexual assault!

Is Your Neighborhood Safe For Women?

Our society is becoming more and more like a hermit one. Most people live in their own little world, secluded from their neighbors and friends. But us women especially, need to reach out and explore our neighborhoods.

Women should become friendly with police officers in their neighborhood.
It's no wonder that some people suffer from depression and loneliness. The age of communication is progress, but we also should take more seriously, personal contact with others. It helps with our safety, makes us happier and it especially enables us women to rely on others for the occasional emergencies that we sometimes may encounter.

Become aware of who is a sexual offender in your neighborhood.
The more you know your neighbors, the more you will look out for each other. Have you ever met the officers of your neighborhood's police department? Try to become friends with a few officers. They are the individuals that keep our home's safety, in check! They might step out of their way to help you, if you ever need assistance with creepy individuals. Make sure you contact them if you are leaving your home for a few days… Many police officers offer patrolling your street, if they know you are going away for a few days. By the way, have you looked at your police department's website? Most have information regarding sexual offenders in your area. Some show pictures of the sexual offenders and even their exact addresses… You will be surprised to know how many sexual offenders are around your neck of the woods!

Basically, women or men for that matter, need to have neighborhood friendships and develop a sense of community. Not only does safety help keep your mental sanity, you will be happier and your neighborhood will feel like an extended family!

Universities Not Taking Rape Claims Seriously

Is your daughter going to college this year or has she been attending? It might be in your daughter's best interest, to find out how her university goes about sexual assault claims.

Top American universities have too many women sexually assaulted.
Many public colleges, including some of the best USA ones, don't seem to take rape seriously. It looks like 5 out of the 25 listed by Forbes recently in 2013, as Top-Notch, failed when it came to sexual assault cases.

West Point:
Rugby team disbanded for email chain w/derogatory remarks toward women... Females (at least a dozen), video taped in showers... University sued for failing to prosecute students accused of committing rape.

University of California, Berkeley:
The campus was accused of not reporting campus crimes accurately, according to the Clery Act.

Unites States Naval Academy:
3 Football players for the Academy were charged in June, for raping women.

University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill:
A Title IX complaint was filed by 3 women, with OCR, regarding them and 64 other students assaulted... Dean pressured to underreport sexual assault cases... A female student was punished for intimidating her rapist, by the university's Office of Student Conduct.

University of Colorado, Boulder:
A filed Title IX complaint was given to the university.

The list goes on and on... There was even a female student at the University of Southern California who was told by campus officials and police, that she wasn't raped, because the alleged attacker, didn't have an orgasm!

If you think that the middle east has problems regarding women being raped, think again! According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network), every 2 minutes, someone gets raped in our own country. Sexual assault rates in colleges are even higher!

The Best Disguised Weapon for Women

What do most women carry in their purse, besides their wallet? The answer usually is lipstick. Us ladies pull it out when we're out and about… And when we do take it out, nobody really pays attention.

Dating couple taking a stroll in the evening.
That's the beauty of this unnoticeable weapon called, Pepper Shot Lipstick Pepper Spray! If you feel that you might get sexually assaulted while in a nightclub or anywhere else, for that matter, just pull this baby out! Since it's a disguised weapon, the aggressor will actually think you want to touch up for him or that you want to spray some perfume on! Just lift the cap, press down the button and shoot the pepper spray into his eyes! This disguised weapon, gives us women the upper hand… for a change!

This disguised Lipstick Pepper Spray comes in 5 colors: black, pink, blue, red and silver. It can reach 6 feet away and contains approximately 5, one second bursts. It also has a UV Dye for identifying an attacker, if he is captured by police!
Disguised lipstick weapon for women's personal protection.

Don't become a victim of sexual assault. According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, sexual assault literally happens every 2 minutes in this country. Even though the news always mentions middle eastern women getting raped in huge numbers, our country has the same issue. But it's so common that, unfortunately, it doesn't even make the news!

Male and Female Sexual Predators in Our Schools

Everyone knows that American schools are inferior in educating it's students, than many other schools around the world. But there is also another issue threatening our children.

Amanda Sotelo, Bexar County
Seems like every other day, a teacher is accused of having sex with underage students. These educators are males as well as females. Some are full-time and some are substitutes. Many jump from one county or state to the other and all are pedophiles! Physical education coaches are not the only pedophiles around… It's the pretty and sexy female instructor or the well dressed fit male ones as well. And for some reason, education facilities are not communicating with each other and informing other schools, nationally, of pedophile school teachers!

Latest one caught was Amanda Sotelo. A 35 year old substitute teacher in Texas. She got pregnant by having sex with a 14 year old student and got arrested on November 1st, for indecency with a child. Some people have this old mentality, especially men, that this 14 year old got lucky sexually and… way to go kid, attitude! WRONG! The sex of the teacher shouldn't make the crime less threatening. It certainly doesn't make it right! Maybe this mentality is also shared by these female pedophile teachers. They assume that society will look the other way… Not so, and especially not now!

This kind of sexual corruption, just makes our children fall even more behind in their grades and undermines our national education system. Parents should get more involved with their children's education and know personally all their educators. It probably is less likely that a sexual pervert will act upon his or her urges, when they personally know the student's parents. Plus schools need to screen their educators better and try to find out if they have any criminal record in any other State, substitutes included!

Over 5,000 Boy Scouts of America Cases of Sexual Abuse

Recently, the Los Angeles Times posted the Boy Scouts of America files, dated between 1947 to 2005. It shows names of accused individuals, dates, city, state, unit number and many detailed documents of the sexual abuse that took place.

Reading thru some of the cases was overwhelming and the horrific information database, spans thru decades! Most files contained information of about 5,000 men and a few women that were accused of sexual abuse and expelled from the Boy Scouts of America. Such as their physical description, profession, if married or single, children they had, etc. Also included in most, is the correspondence that took place inside the organization and outside as well, like information from the police or family members of the victims. Many individuals had long histories of police records, as well!

You can search through the Boy Scouts of America database by year, city, state, etc. There is even a map you can click on, to narrow your search. To go to the database and for more information, click HERE.

Sexual Whistles and Harassment by Men in Cities

Men whistle at you, while you are walking in the city and say, "Hey baby jump in my bed", "You can sit on my lap", "Give me some of that a...". You get the idea. Many women are victims of this and have to listen to it, on a daily basis.

Hollaback! website video. Click here to watch!
Most Women, no matter how old, what race or what language they speak, are sooner or later, victims of some sort of sexual harassment while walking in the streets, on a bus or subway. It's these constant comments from men that don't even know your name, but feel free to have a sexual conversation with you, by embarrassing you. Not only are there comments, but there's also groping while in a bus or train. For most women, this is intimidating and can be very scary, to say the least!

Some cities have laws in place to discourage men from doing this. Cities like New York and the State of Connecticut, which can penalize someone if they harass you constantly. In California, you have to be touched by an individual, in order for them to be penalized! But many cities don't have laws like these. They have harassment laws that only apply in the workplace, but not ones for the streets. It's important for all cities to have some sort of law, because harassment can turn ugly, too!

If you are a frequent victim of sexual harassment in the city, you might want to find out what laws are in place, if any! There is also a websites called, Hollaback!, which encourages women to tell their story and accepts donations for several changes that the organization is helping with, in the US and abroad as well.

You don't have to be harassed in the streets anymore by men. Know your rights, and if your city doesn't have laws in place, try to do something about it!

How Serious of a Rape Problem do We Have in the USA?

It's a very serious problem. To prove it we have some statistics for you that we find very discouraging... Fortunately, women can improve these statistics.

Women, especially young ones, think that they will never be a victim of sexual assault. Maybe because they haven't lived long enough to see the stream of rape reports or met anyone who has mentioned that they've been raped. The stigma, is so bad, that many of these crimes go unreported, as well!
We are here to tell you that, just as you fasten your seat belt when you get in a car, you should also fasten or carry a self defense weapon such as pepper spray with you at all times. With the exception of when you are at home, of course. Some might say this is very extreme... But statistics don't lie and the statistics are showing that women are more likely to be raped than the chances of an automobile accident to occur in our country. That's because this life threatening crime can occur in schools or universities, at work, parking lots, stairways, parks, alleys... The place or circumstances are endless. Perhaps you might say that men can also be victims of this, but unfortunately, women are the majority of the victims. What do car seat belts and self defense pepper spray weapons have in common? Well, they both may save lives. In fact, we looked up the statistics and this is what we found for the year 2009. Mind you, not all of these crimes are reported!

2009 U.S.A Statistics
Car Accidents:     10,800,000 (source: United States Census Bureau)
Sexual Assaults:  29,300,000 (source: Wikipedia)

Basically there were almost 3 times more rape crimes in this country than there were car accidents in 2009! The number of sexual assaults in our country placed us in 8th place, in the entire world.

So carry a pepper spray weapon ladies, and buckle up in self defense, as well as in your automobile! It's up to you, to change the statistics and not become a victim!

College: A Learning Experience Or A Dangerous One?

Higher education should be just that, a good formal education. But sometimes, in the real world, things just don't go quite as planned. Unfortunately, sometimes life throws us a curve ball.

Many young women attend college and have a wonderful experience throughout their attendance, but some don't. Some are dragged into violent situations, and become victims of sexual assault. Studies have shown that college women are 4 times more likely to become victims of rape compared to the rest of the female population. Plus, 90% of them were raped by someone they considered to be a friend. Most of these victims, are raped during the beginning of their freshman and sophomore years and sadly, only 10% of these cases are reported to authorities.

This is why we thought it was important to include on our website the College Safety Package. It includes three items that we think are crucial for women to have during their college attendance. A personal alarm, a stun pen (looks more like a magic marker) and a pepper spray. These items may very well prevent a sexual assault and they are easily carried in a purse or backpack. The personal alarm and pepper spray, also have a convenient key ring.

Besides being equipped with these self defense products, it's also important to let your daughter know that she should always have one of these items in her hand, whenever she is walking or studying alone, in a public place!

Sexual assault is traumatic and can have lifelong consequences, that include pregnancy, depression and even suicide. Make sure your daughter is safe on campus besides getting her educational degree!

Online Dating Sites Finally Start Screening Sexual Predators

Dating for the first time, in general, is risky business. But dating someone you found online is even riskier! It's about time that dating websites decided to screen for these violent rapists. It's a shame that women have been exposed to sexual predators through these websites, when it is information that is so readily available from authorities. Shame on Match.com, eHarmoney and Spark Networks, for not screening for this, from the beginning. We hope that other online sites will follow their example if they do not already, screen for sexual predators.

It's sad to find out that a woman had to be assaulted on a date, using an online dating site, before anyone did anything about it. If you are using or considering using these types of websites to find your better half, please do your own homework. Check your local police website. Most if not all police websites have a listing of sexual predators in your area. Some are as detailed as mapping exactly what address they live at, their full name and a photo of the rapists near you! Make sure that the person you are considering, is not included in this list!

PLUS, always follow your instincts, stay away from any person that makes you feel uneasy or creepy. Better to walk away than to become a victim of a rapist.

Domestic Violence Shelter Receives Pepper Spray from Women On Guard™

Women On Guard™ donated pepper spray to the Crisis Center of Northern New Mexico, in Espanola, New Mexico.

Pompano Beach, FL, August 2, 2010. Women On Guard™ is an e-commerce website that sells self defense products such as pepper spray, mace, tasers, stun guns and personal alarms. The owners of WomenOnGuard.com, Susan Eaton and Martha Z. Martinez, regularly make pepper spray donations to women’s crisis centers or similar causes around the country. The website which was started in 2006, also offers Hotlines and Safety Tips, among other information regarding self defense.

The mission of the Crisis Center of Northern New Mexico is to impact the cycle of domestic violence by providing crisis intervention with short and long-term programs in the service areas of Rio Arriba, Los Alamos and Northern Santa Fe counties of New Mexico. They provide a safe haven (shelter) for persons who have sustained physical, sexual, psychological violence or a combination thereof without prejudice to age, race, creed, gender, color or sexual preference. The Crisis Center also provides counseling, advocacy, education and other services as needed to accomplish the mission. It also provides public education and information relating to the nature of physical, sexual and psychological domestic violence.

Susan Eaton, one of the owners of Women On Guard, expressed her concerns about violence during the summer months. She mentioned, “The rate of sexual assaults unfortunately increases when many people take time off from work or school. This is mostly due to more social interaction, be it at parties, walking down city streets while enjoying the weather or just at a barbecue in a park. Many times there is alcohol involved that result in people making silly decisions, like leaving a party with a complete stranger or accepting a drink that contains a date rape drug.”

Women On Guard also wanted to make sure that people, especially women, take precautions during this summer. Below is a short list of some of their safety tips:
  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Never walk alone at night, no matter how safe it may seem. Ask someone to go w/you.
  • Exercise routines such as walking or running outdoors, should have a variable schedule, don’t be too predictable for a potential attacker.
  • Always get your own drink at parties or bars. Watch it being poured, keep an eye on it and never leave your drink unattended. Don’t drink out of a punch bowl. When ordering beer, it’s best to get it in a sealed bottle.
  • Never accept to leave a nightclub or party with a stranger. If you are intoxicated, have the barkeeper or host of the party, call for a taxi.
  • Keep in mind that intoxicated individuals are potential victims for attackers. Criminals take advantage of people who have their guard down.
