Is Pepper Spray Legal in My State?

We get this question asked many times from people that visit our  WomenOnGuard website. This is a very important question because you can be fined by a law enforcement officer for possessing a self defense spray if it is illegal in your state!

Fortunately pepper spray or mace is legal in most of the United States of America, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. But there are some states that it is absolutely not allowed and some states that pepper spray and mace is allowed but with some restrictions.

It is forbidden to buy pepper spray or mace from our website in the State of New York. Which is not to say that you can't carry it. You can buy pepper spray from within the state, but not from another state such as ours in Florida! It is New York's way of keeping track of which citizens carry it. You can buy it in New York from a licensed pharmacist or a firearms dealer. However, it IS LEGAL to buy on our website, dog pepper spray and bear pepper spray for New York. Massachusetts also has similar restrictions, but you can only buy it in that state through a firearms dealer. It is not available through pharmacists.

Michigan and Wisconsin are states that also have certain restrictions. To read these, and restrictions on stun devices, such as Tasers, stun guns, stun batons, cell phone stun guns and other disguised stun guns, go to the State Restrictions page of our website.
