Cops Eye Break In UNC Student Slaying

A "Person of Interest" Detained In Shooting Death Of Student Body President

(CBS/AP) Police investigating the slaying of the University of North Carolina's student body president may have a new break in the case.

Durham police detained a person of interest for questioning in the Eve Carson case Wednesday morning and turned him over to Chapel Hill authorities, reports CBS News affiliate WRAL-TV in Raleigh.

Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall told several media outlets Wednesday that police are talking to a person of interest. He declined to comment further.

Woodall's comment followed an overnight raid in Durham. WTVD-TV broadcast a video Wednesday of a man arrested during a raid in Durham who the station said was later turned over to Chapel Hill police.
