It's A No Brainer To Still Go To A Gym And Exercise!

This blog information has been collected from various articles. It is not to imply that  following the statements below, will prevent or cure Alzheimer’s.

Many women and men go to gyms for workouts. Probably because of all the commercials and ads you see from fitness centers.

Let’s open our minds here, for a few minutes... Unless you are planning to lift over a hundred pounds on a daily basis, all you really need is to just have some nice muscle tone. Just enough strength to pick up a baby, laundry basket, clean your home or wash your car! You get the idea…

But there is also another aspect to consider; having a sharp mind… That’s right, a sharp mind. Many people now a days also worry about their brains as well. Especially as you get older and the Alzheimer’s epidemic! Doing pushups or lifting weights, over and over again, is not going to give men or women a sharp mind. The brain needs to be stimulated.

The best way to exercise is to use your muscles AND stimulate your brain. Therefore, an activity such as walking or running outdoors or in a mall if the weather outside is bad, seems to be more helpful for your body and mind. Think about it… You have to watch your step, keep an eye out for cars, watch for sidewalk bumps, pass and wave to new people, breath fresh air from the trees outdoors… In order to not fall over, you have to be alert of your surroundings and that involves using your brain. You see new things, not just a pair of handles on your elliptical all the time. It's good for your mind! The more you engage your brain and see or notice different things while you are walking or running, the better. Plus, you can exercise in different places, like parks, beaches or any other place you might want to explore! Reading a book or magazine, wouldn’t hurt either…

Doing the exact same thing over and over is like being a hamster on a wheel. We are not saying that walking or running outdoors will prevent women or men from getting Alzheimer’s, but it will stimulate you mentally! Exercise and explore the neighborhood, a change of scenery is good. It’s better for your body and your brain...

Brisk Walking Exercise Safety Tips

Lets face it, many of us women aren't very athletic and can't run marathons, so the next best thing is to walk as fast as we can and try not to hurt anything!

But the focus of this post it not to train women for posture or how to pace themselves, but rather to offer basic safety tips during their fresh air escapades. This is assuming the weather allows it and you dress appropriately.

OK, the first of our tips is the music one. Yes, us women do enjoy music while we walk briskly but it can also make you less aware of your surroundings and that can be a problem! If you must listen to it, lower the volume. Better to listen to perhaps a talk show, interview, the news… Something that doesn't completely fade out the noises in your environment. The best thing of course is not to place anything in your ears and listen to the birds or cars, you get the idea! Another of the safety tips is to change your routine. If you can go walking at different times of the day, do it! Be less predictable about the time of day you exercise. This will deter a predator from targeting you. Also try not to take the same path, take alternate or random routs each day. Explore around, its not like you are on a race track, going around in circles… Enjoy your exercise walks by looking at different scenery. Also, if you have a walking buddy such as a friend or a pet, that is even better!

Use common sense when walking briskly, especially if your neighborhood doesn't have side walks. If you must walk on the side of the street, go against your instinct and walk toward traffic! This way, you can dodge any car that is coming at you and no vehicle will sneak from behind you. Let's admit, there are bad drivers, texting going on and people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Don't worry, after following this particular tip for a few days, you will wonder, why you didn't do this before!

Ok, these are the common sense, basic safety walking tips. We didn't want you women to read a thesis! Now go out and exercise and please, don't forget to carry a self defense item in your escapades...

Safety While Walking Your Dog

We all know that when we walk our dogs, they most likely will keep us safe, even the smaller ones are fearless! But what will keep your personal walking buddy safe? What if you are strolling along together and all of a sudden a loose, aggressive dog appears? Can you provide safety for your pet?

Too often, people, including myself, have been in this situation while walking. It is very scary and can also be deadly. But there is a solution to this problem. Mace makes a pepper spray to stop aggressive dogs! It is a humane way to protect your pet from other violent dog attacks. The Mace Muzzle is a pepper spray for canines, that in my family is a must have, when we are walking our pups. It has a convenient key chain that you can simply attach to your buddy's leash, plus a belt clip, both of which add available safety. The casing is very ergonomic, making it very easy to use. The Mace Muzzle pepper spray for dogs can shoot a stream as far as 10 feet away and it contains 10, one second bursts. The expiration date is on the bottom of the spray, keeping you aware of when it's time to replace it. Usually it is potent for 3 or 4 years.

Joggers, bikers, walkers and delivery people will also benefit from carrying this Mace Muzzle pepper spray, for their own safety.

Go on, enjoy a carefree walk with your companion!

Personal Safety While Running, Jogging or Walking

It's that time of the year when your winter hibernation ends and your outdoor adventures begin. It's nice to breathe fresh air and give your treadmill or elliptical a rest! Nothing is better than running free down a dirt road, through trails or just jogging through your neighborhood. We all love to be outside with nature. I guess it brings back that child in us, to explore.

In order to achieve your full potential, you shouldn't have fearful thoughts cross your mind. Unfortunately it is no secret that us women should be careful when we are alone in public. Just as you buckle your seatbelt without really thinking about it when you get into your car, you should also take some sort of personal safety weapon in your workout escapades. Yes, I'm talking about the good old pepper spray. Whether it is the Mace brand, Streetwise 17% or the PepperBall HotShot brands, carrying one of them while you are walking, jogging or running, will help you focus more on your workout rather than on your personal safety. Most pepper sprays have a keychain that you can attach to your keys. It's as simple as just having it with your keys as you lock your home's front door, to start your workout. Why protect yourself only when you get into a car?

There are many pepper sprays on the market today, some come with hand straps and flashlights. Others double as walking weights, for those of you who want to build muscle as you walk! There are even some that look like pagers, lipstick, etc.

Personal safety should never be an issue when you are jogging, running or walking outdoors!

How To Prevent Getting Attacked While Walking, Jogging, Running or Hiking

One of the most enjoyable things a person can do is exercise and many people choose to do it outdoors. Due to time restrictions in this hectic world, a jogger, runner, walker or hiker have a routine that they follow. Most of the time they follow the same path, go at the same time every day or every other day and usually do it alone.

The recent murder of Meredith Emerson, a hiker in Georgia, is yet another example of a victim that was enjoying the outdoors while hiking. Although, the media has not indicated if she did or did not carry any self-defense product. More often than not, most women and men usually do not. They are so focused on their exercise routine and perhaps drinking water that they overlook the possibility of an assault.

It is very important to make it a habit when preparing for your outdoor exercise routine to take with you some sort of self-defense product along with your keys.

Pepper spray is one of the most common self-defense products being used today. It is small, light and usually has a belt clip and/or a key chain. There is even Dog Repeller pepper spray for those all too common stray dogs. This is very convenient when you are on the go. While hiking, you might consider carrying Bear Repellent pepper spray in your backpack. While power walking, you might consider Pepper Spray Walking Weights. These 1 lb. weights actually have a replaceable pepper spray canister inside!

A Stun gun is also an option. They are small and light weight and some are no bigger than the palm of your hand. Some stun guns come disguised as a pager or cell phone so the attacker has no idea that you have protection. For hikers, there is also a real handy non-lethal product that is convenient to have if you are going to camp out during the night. The Stun Baton, which has a flash light and a personal alarm. It is a stun gun, alarm, and flashlight all in one unit. The would-be-attacker would think you are just carrying a flashlight!

Yet another option is at taser. There are several options to choose from here also. Some look like a gun but the latest Taser C2 looks more like an electric shaver than a non-lethal weapon.

So, don't just keep your body in shape, also keep yourself safe and protect yourself with non-lethal self-defense products.

WomenOnGuard.com was designed by two women who deeply believe in combatting violent crimes against women by empowerment and prevention. WomenOnGuard.com sells non-lethal, self-defense products such as Mace, pepper sprays, personal alarms and stun devices such as the Taser C2, stun guns and cell phone stun guns. Protect yourself or a loved one and visit http://www.WomenOnGuard.com and purchase a safety product. These products make great gifts that show you care.
