"Yes Means Yes", California's Renaming Sexual Message For College Students

New bill requires, female students to first verbally agree to having sex. Only when a woman has "an affirmative, conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity", should a male student proceed.

If a female student doesn't say yes or doesn't say anything at all, it means she does not want sexual contact. This is what this new bill in California states, by Governor Jerry Brown. Basically if the female student is silent, lacks resistance, asleep, is drunk or unconscious… if she doesn't say "YES", she should not be sexually touched or manipulated!

You would think that a law like this is not necessary for college students, but sometimes placing rules, might bring up a red flag and help prevent sexual assaults by male students. We praise Governor Jerry Brown for signing this bill and hope that other colleges or universities follow suit.

Children with Guns in School is the Latest Trend

According to an NBC survey, so far this year, there have been 48 incidents of students carrying a gun on school grounds. Plus, this does not count the children that weren't publicly mentioned.

This is not only limited to certain parts of our country, students in Atlanta, Chicago, North Carolina, Virginia… The list goes on and on. The NBC survey mentioned that an average of more than 2 guns a day are being discovered by school officials. It is believed that some guns are brought in by students for showing off. But the most disturbing is that some kids bring them to school to protect themselves from bullies.

It's understandable for a child to feel they need to protect themselves from bullies, but it is not understandable why a parent would allow a child to take a gun to school. If the parent was not aware of the missing weapon, then they did not keep it in a safe enough place and away from their children. Parents should tell their children, to INFORM A TEACHER at the school, if they don't feel safe!

Our government may have laws, but if parents don't take it into their own hands, to follow the law and be responsible for their children to not carry weapons or be bullies, then what's the point of trying to have a civilized society?

Parents of college students beware!

Many of you have kids attending college now and have sent them off packed with everything they could possibly need. Or so you think you have packed all they need...

We at WomenOnGuard.com are on the lookout and using Twitter quite often. One of the topics that many college students are tweeting about, especially college girls or women is their fear regarding their surroundings and safety issues. Some college students are mentioning being scared to walk around on campus in the dark when it is very early in the morning or late at night. Some students are complaining about having creepy guys staring at them. Plus some of them are even wondering how or where they can buy pepper spray or mace. Also don't assume that your son is not in danger simply because he is a boy or a man. College men get assaulted, and robbed frequently on campuses. Violence amongst males on campus also exists. Safety is a concern for males as well as females.

This is just a heads up to parents of college students. Make sure your child is not only getting good grades, but is also attending college safely! Call and ask your child if they feel safe or if they need some protection and have them read our safety tips!

Student's sexual assault awareness t-shirts confiscated by Principal

A few students recently hand made some t-shirts expressing that sexual assault was wrong. The students wore their t-shirts to school, just like any other shirts kids wear for a good cause. Well, that didn't sit right with the Acting Associate Principal of Mosinee High School in Mosinee, WI!

Below is a quote by the Associate Principal:
"I’m all for educating students on this topic, but I think it should be done during the month of awareness using pamphlets and fliers from an established organization. That would add some substance to the cause." (as quoted in the Wausau Daily Herald)

The student's t-shirts were confiscated by the Principal and they were told by him that they would get their t-shirts back, on the last day of school.

Lets analyze this for a moment. According to this mentality, we are only to wear breast cancer t-shirts in October, or no drunk driving t-shirts in December? Do women only get breast cancer in October? Do drunk drivers only drive in December? We know that every 2 seconds, someone in this country gets sexually assaulted! Most t-shirts have statements on them. That is why we like wearing them... It's not like these student's shirts contain pornographic images!

The only time this behavior from a Principal would be acceptable, is if the school was private and it had a policy whereas students were required to wear uniforms.
