My childhood was spent in Florida and like other kids, I got a nice brown tan! But now, I'm paying for it. Back in the 60's people didn't know better, about sunshine and it's repercussions. Below is what I went through, because I got too much sun outside, as a child...

I was diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma, about 5 years ago. Fortunately it is not the deadly kind, like Melanoma! It started like a pimple on my nose and it kept coming back for a couple years... Finally it got to the point where it wouldn't heal and kept bleeding, so I went to a dermatologist. He confirmed it to be cancerous and not just a pimple, like I thought!

The cancer had spread very deep into my nose, so taking it out and covering it with skin, was not enough. It would leave a deep dent on my nose. I ended up having surgery to fill the hole with my own cells, in order to later place a piece of skin over it. The plastic surgeon had to pull a flap of skin from my forehead and bring it temporarily down to the tip of my nose, like a funnel. Doing this would allow new cells to grow and therefore fill in the void on the tip of my nose. I had that funnel for 3 weeks until my second surgery was done! Needless to say, I was not allowed to lay flat on my bed, because I could bleed out!

On the second surgery, the Dr. brought up the flap of skin and placed it back onto my forehead. Then, he got another piece of my forehead skin and placed it, over the now filled with cells, spot on my nose. He later had to stretch the skin where the little piece was taken from and stitch it back together, on my forehead!

This is what I went through, just because I got too much sun as a kid! ALWAYS wear a hat when you are out in the sun and use SUNSCREEN! If you have children; make them apply sunscreen if they play outside! You don't only get cancer when you are at the beach!

You Hear About Rape Or Domestic Violence... But What About Child Abuse In Our Country?

Whether it's because parents are having financial problems, they are getting a divorce, are fired from their job... It doesn't mean that they should take it out against their children!

• Since 2008, overall rates of children who received a CPS response increased by 4.7 percent, from 40.8 to 42.7 per 1,000 children in the population. This results in an estimated 107,000 additional children who received a CPS response in 2012 (3,184,000) compared to 2008 (3,077,000).
• Nationally, four-fifths (78.3%) of victims were neglected, 18.3 percent were physically abused, 9.3 percent were sexually abused and 8.5 percent were psychologically maltreated.
• For 2012, a nationally estimated 1,640 children died of abuse and neglect at a rate of 2.20 children per 100,000 children in the national population. 

Keep in mind that these figures are between 2008 and 2012. New figures might reflect higher or lower abuse. By law, no individual or family should abuse their children under any circumstance!

If you are aware of children abuse around your area, you should immediately notify the "Children's Bureau: An Office of the Administration for Children and Families".

Do You Think It's Important To Let Children Know About Sexual Orientation?

This Month Is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Thousands of women in our country seek shelter because of domestic violence each year. Many of them have children and unfortunately some don't survive and become victims of their abuser.

Just so that you can get an idea of the magnitude of domestic violence in our country, we found information on a survey that reflects figures for ONE DAY. This survey was done on September 17, 2013. It involved 1,649 shelters around our country, again, for just one day!

A total of 66,581 domestic violence victims were counted for that day alone. 36,348 Of those victims found emergency shelters or temporary housing. It included 16,917 adults and 19,431 children. Another 30,233 adults and children sought counseling, legal assistance, support services in non-residential assistance and services.

The Hotline calls for that particular day, regarding household violence in a 24-hour survey was 20,267!

Many Americans look abroad and try to help women in the Middle East and other territories, where they are also abused. But we have issues here in our own country, with battered women and their kids, as well. Many shelters in the USA, need funds to support and help improve these battered women and their children's lives. What Kind Of Parent Forgets Their Baby In A Car?

In last Friday's news there was yet another case of a 10 month old baby left in a hot car, by a parent, to die in Wichita's summer heat. The child was picked up from the babysitters and later forgotten in the car for 2 hours!

Of course we are busy with work, cleaning, paying bills, so on and so forth… But there really is no excuse for children who depend on you, to be forgotten and locked in a car! That in itself is unforgivable, but doing this in the hot summer heat is definitely more than unforgivable, it's a crime!

When people decide to become parents, they have an obligation to raise their child safely and provide for them, until they become adults. There simply is no excuse for letting a baby die in the hot summer heat because you "forgot about the baby". If you are that forgetful, you don't need to be taking care of your own children. There are plenty of good parents out there, that would love to adopt them and protect them from people that are too busy looking out for just themselves!

Statistics show that many children die in hot vehicles every year. In fact more than 36 annually. What kind of society does this to helpless babies?

Another gun accident story… This one involved two small brothers in Arizona, a 3 year old and an 18 month old baby.

Are We Becoming A Wimp Society?

I know that the above header is a strange question. But watching a video posted on facebook, made me think twice about our society!

The above video, makes a good statement. Even though somethings, I believe, have changed for the better... It has occurred to me lately though, that many people are becoming more and more like hermits in our society. Hermits because they don't step out and breath fresh air and only see others on a screen. Even if those others are actually living next door to them! There definitely are more overweight adults and children… Too many of our children play video games indoors instead of kickball outside and there are more and more people taking narcotics to get high.

Many people today, don't understand that experiencing real things, such as physically touching someone and listening to them in person, is a NATURAL HIGH!

Sex Offenders Are Getting Creative

We're not sure if the case that happened last month was unique or if other sex offenders or pedophiles are practicing this disguised or cross dressing tactic.

The event occurred in Sunnyvale, CA. A male sex offender, dressed as a woman, tried to enter a K-8 school campus. The man, Theodore Lorigo, a registered sex offender for kidnapping a child with intent to commit lewd or lascivious acts, was disguised as a woman or cross dressing. He tried to enter the property's campus unnoticed but the headmaster of the school, fortunately blocked him. The sex offender or pedophile, mentioned that he had children of his own and wanted to check out the school for his kids, before admitting them in this particular campus. Luckily, the headmaster thought something was just not right and didn't believe him. The sex offender was eventually arrested.

It goes without saying, that next time you drop your children at school, try to keep an eye on pedophiles that look like they are disguised as a woman or cross dressing… They might very well be male sexual offenders! This is not to say that there aren't females that also fall under that same category. Talk to your children and ask them what they think about their teachers or staff on campus.

More Children Are Victims Of Gun Deaths In Our Society, Than What Is Reported

A recent report by the New York Times, mentioned that more children are victims of gun accidents, than we thought in our society.

It's not because the deaths of these children by guns, were not reported. It's because they were mentioned along with adult victims. In other words, instead of police reporting an incident as an "accident", it was reported as a homicide. So those children in the homicide category, are counted as adults! Leaving fewer "accidental" child killings for the record.

Another interesting thing regarding these deaths, was that most of the shootings were done by boys in our society. Plus, 80% of the victims were boys.

I wonder if boys are attracted to guns, because of video games, movies or even perhaps peer pressure from other boys, men or their fathers. Our country should encourage boys to focus on more productive and less violent ways, to contribute to our society! Maybe then, there will be fewer deaths of any age group in our society.
