Children Plus Guns In Homes Equals Death For Many

Another gun accident story… This one involved two small brothers in Arizona, a 3 year old and an 18 month old baby.

Some Family Traditions Are Lethal

It's the stuff that bonds us together. Memories are made with them and they define us through family traditions, from one generation to the next.

Do you remember the first time you took a puff of a cigarette? What about the first time you took a sip of beer? Or the first time you held a gun, were you scared? Did you like any of those things? Probably not, and that first impression should have deterred you from doing it again… But peer pressure and family gatherings, changed your attitude and you went along with the firearm "tradition". Even though it went against your natural instincts.

If your father or mother drank, smoked or had a gun, you most likely were taught by them on how to drink, smoke and shoot a weapon. Basically; monkey see, monkey do! That is the never ending cycle of why most American families carry firearms. It's a tradition, carried from one generation to the next.

It's no wonder that Americans are hooked on guns and other firearms… But, a family can be very powerful, without the use of lethal weapons. How Much Longer Should Americans Bare, School And College Shootings?

Or for that matter, any sort of massacre in our land! Statistics prove that more people die in our country from firearms in a year than American soldiers do abroad. There literally is a war going on in our own country!

The shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School is the latest of an ever increasing problem, our country has with firearm weapons control. Why, just this morning, I heard someone suggest that they should now equip our teachers with firearms! Where will this end? Many countries in Europe have banned firearms from it's citizens and as a consequence, these countries have far fewer incidents of shootings. All gun stores should follow Dick's Sporting Goods' recent stance, which is to halt the selling of fully and semiautomatic weapons. This should be a permanent decision that should be included throughout our entire country.

Semiautomatic weapons were invented for usage in wars, not schools! They don't belong in stores like Dick's Sporting Goods. Yet there are gun shops and websites that still sell them. The semiautomatic weapons that are made in the USA, are also found in Mexico. Since these firearms are apparently not controlled enough, they are used by drug lords for shootings, sometimes against our own border patrol!

Assault guns such as semiautomatic ones, should not be sold to civilians. We need stricter gun control to stop these school shootings! Dick's Sporting Goods, apparently got the message… Hopefully the rest of firearm shops will follow their example and stiffer laws against them will be enforced.

Advantages of Non Lethal Weapons

Guns and other lethal weapons are being focused upon by Americans lately. It is no surprise, considering the Colorado fatalities and the increase of mass shootings in our country. But with all the talk about firearms and the shootings in Colorado, nobody has mentioned the non lethal means of defending ourselves with alternative products.

When you think about police all over the world using Tasers, more than guns, it kind of makes you wonder if the fascination over firearms is overrated. There is a reason why police have chosen non lethal means, and civilians should also consider that weapons such as these, are just as effective in controlling assault crimes as fatal ones are. The most important aspect of alternative defense is that nobody gets killed and you are less likely to end up in jail, when you defend yourself or your family.

Non lethal weapons come in all sizes and shapes. You have your basic pepper spray that was used by ancient Chinese armies, hundreds of years ago, to the more sophisticated, powerful Citizen Tasers, that are used today. Plus all the other in-between non lethal self defense items, such as stun guns that come disguised as batons, cell phones and even lipstick! All of these devices are very effective in preventing crime.

Of course, the most powerful non lethal product on the market for civilians is the citizen Tasers. They are just like the ones police use, except that they reach a distance of 15 feet, versus 30. Second, is the weapon you want to buy lethal or non lethal? This is an important question. Do you want to kill your perpetrator(s) with a gun or do you want to temporarily incapacitate them with a Taser? Ask yourself the following questions:

• If the perpetrator gets a hold of your weapon, will they be able to turn it against you or your family?
• If the perpetrator uses your weapon, can it incapacitate you or kill you or your family?

Third and lastly, how easy or difficult will it be to buy a weapon? Will you need a special permit? If you are considering a firearm, you will need a permit to carry it.
