If You Notice Someone With A Black Dot On The Palm, Call The Police!

If you ever see a person that has a black dot on the palm, you should call the police immediately. The black dot means that the person is in trouble.

“Black Dot Campaign” started on Facebook and it’s a campaign to recognize the victims of domestic abuse. That simple black dot on their hand signifies a call for help.

By putting a black dot on their palms, victims of domestic violence can show that they’re in danger. So if you ever notice a person with a black dot on his/her palm, help this person and call the police.

“The black dot on the hand lets professionals know you’re a really vulnerable domestic violence survivor, and that you need help but can’t ask because your abuser is watching your every move. In just 24 hours, the campaign has reached over 6,000 people worldwide, and has already helped 6 women. Please spread the campaign, and post a picture of your hand with the black dot, to show your support to all survivors of domestic violence,” stated the organizers behind this campaign.

Meathead Movers, Help Abused Women Find Safer Homes And They Don’t Charge A Penny!

The brothers Aaron and Evan Steed started their moving company in 1997. On occasion they would get a call from a woman, needing to move out of her domestic violence home…

They are expanding their compassion and have gathered stylists for haircuts, a realtor to help find rental homes for these women and even a counselor to empower the domestic violence victims, so that they can reach their safety goals, leave the shelters and thrive!

Domestic Violence Victims Can Get Help!

Unfortunately, many women around the world are battered or even killed by their husbands. But American women have some choices they can make, to get rid of their violent situation.

Many women who suffer from domestic violence, depend on their violent spouse for food and shelter. What they don't know, is that there are sources in our country that can help them break away from their abuser and offer options that will help them be independent and have a successful life.

Fortunately, American women can apply for help… We know of two wonderful programs available: The Allstate Foundation and The R.O.S.E Fund. Both have unique services.

The R.O.S.E Fund offers access to medical services for women who have been disfigured and need plastic surgery, due to domestic violence. Women get their self-esteem back.

Obama's Initiative To Stop Sexual Assault Offenses In College Helps, But It Isn't The Complete Solution.

President Obama is trying to involve college campuses into combating the predominant issue of rapes or sexual assaults against women on college campuses. An agenda he backed since the beginning of his administration.

Although Obama's effort is a welcomed one by us ladies and decent men, in our view, it's not the total solution for this abusive stance our country and other nations have. You see, sexual assault is not a law issue, it's a society issue. No law by Obama will fly, unless society breaks the habit of how men perceive women in general, throughout their lives.

Women will be treated with decency and not raped, when children see their father respect and love their mother. When they see that, unlike some football players shown on TV lately, they love and help their wife throughout their marriage. When there is no domestic violence! Children exposed to couples who truly love and respect each other, usually pattern their own relationships to what their parents were like. Hate to say this, but the saying "monkey see, monkey do", comes to mind! Only when a couple of future generations, practice this mutual respect for each other, will our society really change.

So you ladies that aren't married yet, keep in mind that before you accept to marry someone, make sure they love and RESPECT you. Never become a model of domestic violence or rape for your children, whether they are male or female!

The UnderWings Project was founded in 2008, by a woman who was a domestic violence victim herself for 20 years! The programs and services are out of Cleveland, Ohio and are designed to restore wholeness to those impacted by domestic violence. The UnderWings Project helps women and children of domestic violence to recover their lives from physical and mental abuse.

Dana Perino's Comment About Domestic Violence Victims

Recently the Fox News commentator when talking about the murdered girlfriend of NFL player Joyan Belcher, mentioned that these abused women should, "Make Better Decisions".

I was surprised that an intelligent woman like Dana Perino, from Fox News, would make such a statement. As usual, it was the woman's fault! How dare she accuse women for the violence inflicted upon them. The only way that women can defend themselves against bigger and stronger men is by perhaps taking steroids and building muscles! Abused women need counseling and guidance, not absurd accusations. Most of the time these women are stay at home mothers and unfortunately depend on their abusers for shelter and food.

This is why we need to treat girls like we do boys and encourage them to get a good education and a job. If we keep treating women as if they were second class citizens and pay them less than men, this sort of thing will keep repeating itself.

Instead of Dana Perino mentioning in Fox News, such a scandalous remark, she should have mentioned that domestic violence victims should seek help with sources such as The Allstate Foundation or The R.O.S.E Fund. These organizations help victims build their confidence and even offer grants and scholarship money. One of the organizations actually offers facial reconstructive surgery for women who have been disfigured due to domestic violence.

Women On Guard™ Pepper Spray Donation to Arizona Women’s Sexual Assault Center

Women On Guard donated pepper spray to the Northern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault. Step by step, they are slowly helping women, to be safer across the country.

Oakland Park, FL, February 22nd 2012. This is the 25th donation from this Certified WBENC, Women’s Business Enterprise, to a women’s sexual assault center or similar cause. The WomenOnGuard.com website was initiated in October of 2006.

The Northern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault (NACASA) has 13 locations throughout northern Arizona. They provide medical, forensic examinations and Rape Kits, in a calm, quiet and confidential setting. NACASA also provides medication to stop sexually transmitted infections, plus emergency contraception. Susan Eaton and Martha Z. Martinez, co-owners of Women On Guard, mentioned, "On a daily basis, American women are sexually assaulted or beaten every few minutes all over our country. We hear about foreign countries on how men rape women, but neglect to face our culpability on how we treat our own women in the USA. The violence is so often, that the newscasters, just ignore most of these crimes. That’s where the problem becomes worse. Because ignoring it, just makes it okay for rapists and domestic violence abusers, to get away with it.” Susan went on to say, “Our court system also needs to change regarding how these horrible crimes are punished. Many of these domestic violence and sexual assault offenders, are let back out into society, way too soon. Not only that, but they go out into society and repeat the same offense, over and over again. Going back and forth in and out of prison and the streets is not a solution. Sexual assault offenders in particular are known to be repeat offenders.” WomenOnGuard.com is very aware of the many assaults. Susan B. Anthony List, Writes Legislation that Hurts New Hampshire Women

New Hampshire is considering getting rid of laws that protect domestic violence victims and is also considering defunding Planned Parenthood. This is a double whammy against women in New Hampshire, especially for low-income women! These laws were written by the Susan B. Anthony List (not to be confused with other Susan B. Anthony organizations) and the Alliance Defense fund.

The House of representatives in the state voted 207 to 147, to prohibit funding from the state to any clinic that provides abortions, which includes Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood, besides performing abortions, also provides breast exams and pap smears among other services in various states. This breaks a forty year stance of New Hampshire to assist family planning services and abortions.

Today New Hampshire is also considering a bill that requires an officer to actually witness a domestic violence incident, in order for him or her to make an arrest. Even if the woman is bleeding or bruised up, the officer cannot take the abuser into custody, unless they come back with a warrant for the domestic violence. Along with this absurd law the state is also voting on a separate law that limits the grounds or reasons for which an officer can arrest an abuser.

Can you imagine what the real Susan B. Anthony, the women's civil rights leader, would have thought about this?

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

It's a shame that there is a month of the year, October, just for this cruel domestic violence issue. It's a reminder that cruelty towards women is not just in nations across the Atlantic ocean. The USA is also on the list of countries that treat some women like dirt. The singer TRACY CHAPMAN comes to mind. She wrote a song in 1983 that exemplifies domestic violence and how authorities usually deal with it.

Domestic Violence on Steroids

Family is one of the most if not the most important factor in our human existence. Domestic violence is a direct attack on this precious union and it seems like it is getting worse. Most of the time, the husbands are the ones that beat or injure their wives and the wife and children are the ones that suffer emotionally. But lately there are more and more, of what we call; domestic violence on steroids. We know that men or women are more prone to violence when they take steroids. That in itself is a big problem, but we are referring to something else.

It seems like every other day, you hear about a "murder suicide". An alarming case of these murder suicides includes a husband and his wife and his children too! It is bothersome to hear that someone takes his or her own life, but to drag in an entire family, is another situation. These murder suicides are the WORST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CRIME, a person can imagine. This is why we refer to them as domestic violence on steroids. And they are becoming unfortunately, very popular lately. No one knows for sure why this is happening, but some blame it on the economy and the frustration that mostly men have, in not being able to provide for their own families.

If you know of someone that is unemployed because of the economy and getting violent, please try to gear them into some sort or free counseling or help. This is a very serious problem that is affecting many families. The economy should not be a reason why families are dying.

Domestic Violence Project Receives Pepper Spray Donation from Women On Guard™

Women On Guard™ donated pepper spray to the domestic violence UnderWings Project in Cleveland, Ohio.

Pompano Beach, FL, October 18th, 2010. The self defense products website, Women On Guard™ has donated pepper spray to the UnderWings Project after they requested to be a recipient of the on going donations that WomenOnGuard.com started back in 2007. The website donates on a regular basis, nationwide, to a women’s crisis center or similar cause. They sell pepper sprays, Mace, Tasers, stun guns, personal alarms and more. The website also includes hotlines, safety tips and a blog.

The UnderWings Project is a two sister joint effort to find preventative measures to save the lives of women caught-up in the cycle of domestic violence. Their mission is to provide programs and services designed to restore wholeness to those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence. They provide educational, art, music therapy, motivational and safety training in their peer life support groups located in Cleveland and Maple Heights, Ohio in disclosed locations for safety purposes and in order to be accessible to more women. The UnderWings Project has been a self-funded, non-profit organization for almost four years until October 4, 2010. Thanks to The Allstate Foundation, they received their first major grant and now are able to proceed with their Employment, Retention, and Wellness Clinic.

Susan Eaton, one of the owners of Women On Guard mentioned, “It’s a shame that this topic comes up only when a famous person or celebrity is involved in it. Mel Gibson’s abuse toward his wife rose national exposure to this problem. Unfortunately it happens every day to many women in this country and around he world.” Susan stressed that it also doesn’t just hurt women but if they have children, it affects them as well. She also emphasized that a restraining order against the abuser, such as Mel Gibson, many times doesn’t work, and sometimes the women end up being killed.

Women On Guard wants to express that all of us could make a difference by being more observant of our family, friends and co-workers. Martha, the other owner of the website, said, “There are many Mel Gibson’s out there that need to be stopped!”

Below is a list of signs we can look for if we suspect someone we know is in a domestic violence situation:

-       Injuries or bruises and wearing long sleeves on hot days or sunglasses indoors, in an attempt to hide them

-       Missing too many days from work or school

-       Shows very low self-esteem

-       Personality change or not acting like themselves

-       Self-blaming for most everything that happens wrong at school or work; this feeling comes from their abusive home where they are accused of instigating the violence

-       Children of domestic violent homes, act out the violence in school, by becoming a class bully 

Domestic Violence and Police Brutality

What does domestic violence have in common with police brutality? Unfortunately too much! Lately there have been cases of domestic violence being committed by police officers against their wives. In New York there will be a trial soon regarding a wife whose husband was a police officer who frequently aimed a gun at her. The last time, he did this, she got a hold of another of his guns and beat him to it by shooting him to death.

We all hear more often than not how women stick with their abusive husbands and how hard it is for these women to leave, especially if they have children. Well, it's probably twice as hard to leave your abusive husband if he is a cop and has control of his weapon 24 hours a day! I knew of a prison guard who abused 3 of his wives.  Luckily they were able to leave him! Which makes me think that this is just not limited to police, but also to any men that wear a uniform and carry a gun!

Another issue that is against abused wives of police officers is that fellow police officers side with him. If a wife calls for help, one of her husband's buddies answers to her desperate call for help. We all know how cops cover each other's backs. This makes it relatively impossible for the wife to get police protection and even worse, an officer to help her case against her abusive husband in court. This is another way of police brutality, not in the streets but in our courtrooms.

Domestic violence is a national problem and if it is committed by a cop against his own wife, it's much worse! Special attention must be taken for women in this situation. Courts need to somehow change procedures so that domestically abused women married to police officers, get a fair trial.

Senate Passes Bill - Prevents Domestic Violence Victims from Being Evicted

The California Senate just passed Bill SB 782, which prevents landlords from evicting domestic violence victims. This new bill will encourage victims to defend themselves and not face eviction from their home. Eviction has discouraged victims, female and male, to file complaints of domestic violence or sexual assault. SB 782 will encourage women to step forward.

Many landlords have a nuisance clause in their rental agreement that allows them to evict tenants if there is a lot of noise, disturbance, police activity or complaints. When landlords evict domestic violence victims, it's like being victimized again by being pressured to move. Many of these domestic violence victims which are mostly women, end up homeless. Under SB 782, landlords would not be allowed to use their lease clause to evict women under these circumstances. Landlords however can evict the perpetrator of the abuse. It should also be stated that the law presently allows a victim to break their lease and go to a victim's shelter if they choose to do so.

SB 782 will protect victims, women or men, from being evicted only if they show a written statement by a qualified third party, such as a police officer, licensed clinical social worker or therapist. The tenant however, will still be responsible for the lease payments and other clauses.

Sworn in Senator despite being accused of domestic violence

Hiram Monserrate, a former police officer and councilman was sworn in Wednesday to be the new state senator in Albany, N.Y.
He is also under probation and is facing charges for assaulting his girlfriend who had to be taken to the hospital. Monserrate slashed his girlfriend's face with a piece of glass during a jealous rage which result in her needing 25 stitches! It comes to no surprise that his family was there, but of course his girlfriend was absent.

How can a man like this be taking office? I would think the women in Albany would have been up in arms and protesting his new senate position.

If he was sworn in, you have to question, what kind of people are representing us in congress?

Yesterday was a SAD day for women in general and especially for abused women.

Workplace Helps w/Domestic Violence

There has been some branching out from some domestic violence organizations to include information of this problem to Corporate America. Organizations such as Safe Horizon have members of their organization, teaching companies about the impact of domestic violence in their workplaces. Not only does it increase health care expenses, but it also adds to employee absenteeism and productivity. Corporate America is learning how to distinguish between employees that are victims of domestic violence and employees that are not. They are taught to be aware of signs such as employees wearing long sleeves on hot days, sunglasses indoors, etc. They also are suggesting companies post domestic violence hotline phone numbers on signs everywhere in their offices. The signs around the office literally make victims stop and think when they see it written on a wall.

Presently there are 21 states with laws that require employers to assist victims of domestic violence by allowing them to take extra days off. The law also bans discrimination against employees that are in domestic violence situations.

This is very important now, especially with the financial crisis in our country. Victims have reported more violence from their partners due to painful economic conditions.

Domestic violence victims may be eligible for scholarships, grants & cosmetic surgery

Domestic violence victims go through physical and emotional pain. Most of these women and sometimes men too, need medical attention and counseling. But what happens once they leave their violent past and move on their own into society? One huge problem confronted by these victims is a monetary one. Most of these women depended financially on their abusive spouses. Out on their own, these victims have a hard time finding work and sometimes end up in another dominating abusive relationship.

There are a few organizations or companies that pitch in and offer help for domestic violence victims. The Allstate Foundation and The R.O.S.E Fund (Regaining One's Self Esteem), are just a couple of the organizations that offer services for victims. These organizations offer victims the tools to rebuild their lives, achieve self-sufficiency and regain their self-esteem. They do this by educating victims on how to manage their finances, offering grants and scholarship monies. The R.O.S.E Fund also offers facial reconstructive surgery.
